Indiana Youth Survey
Indiana Youth Survey
This spring, students will have the option to participate in the Indiana Youth Survey (INYS). The INYS is a biennial survey that assesses students’ substance use, mental health, and risk and protective factors that can impact student success. Students in grades 6-12 are scheduled to participate. Your child’s school will administer the survey sometime during the window of March 11 - 22, 2024. If you would like to know the date scheduled for your child’s school, please contact the school’s main office. The survey is conducted by Prevention Insights of Indiana University School of Public Health and can be viewed HERE.
The survey takes 20-30 minutes to complete and is voluntary, confidential, and anonymous. Students taking the online survey will also be informed that their participation is voluntary and anonymous. No return path will be generated to identify who completed the online questionnaire. The purpose of the survey is to have accurate knowledge of alcohol, drug, tobacco usage, and risk factors from the youth in our community. The information will be compared to both state and national data. The school corporation will receive a report that indicates usage and survey outcomes by grade level. The outcomes of the survey assist in planning curricula and programs to address health, safety, alcohol, tobacco, and other drug prevention.
Again, the survey is voluntary and confidential. If you or your student chooses NOT to participate in the survey, please notify your child’s school front office staff, counselor, or principal.
